I'm thinking about buying an Escape Hybrid. Teradyne, the company I work for, just closed their Boston buildings and moved all Massachusetts operations up to North Reading. Until I can sell my house I'm looking at a 42 mile commute each way. Even after I sell my house I'm looking at a driving commute. I was spoiled by over ten years of taking the subway or commuter rail to work. Now I need something more fuel efficient.

I saw a lot of first impression posts earlier in this community. Anyone with longer term impressions now?

Just got mine on Monday
Well, I moved from my 2002 Jeep Liberty to a 2006 Escape Hybrid. I got quite lucky with no waiting list. I was able to walk onto the lot, test drive one, then purchase and drive away in one.

I purchased the FWD model since I've got no real need for AWD in Los Angeles and I'll take the better fuel economy. It's loaded with the Nav system and all the bells and whistles and I'm loving it. I'm at about 29 MPG at the moment. It's all Silver and looks great.

The joys of ownership
It came early, but suspected it would happen like that. My lovely blue Ford Escape Hybrid SUV. Drives like a dream, not as powerful as Oswald was, but that's an apple/orange comparison. End of day I'm happy.

Things I gave up:
50 Horsepower (lighter car though, but not a direct differential)
Automatic headlights (don't care about them, would rather have more control)
Sunroof (was tired of it anyway)
Cassette tape player (time to give that one up anyway)
1 gallon of gas capacity (15 vs 16)
Powerful old style AC (newer AC's are done different because of the CFC issue, but I'm willing)

Things I gained:
About 10 to 12 MPG (so far)
Working electric windows
Storage capacity (about 20 cubic feet in general guesses)
110 outlet (no need to get a 12vt converter)
Road view (SUV is higher)
Better color (really more me)
Road clearance (much better, made that way)
Working cruise control (those of you have been in my car know the coin op issue I had)

So with a full tank of gas I left the lot with 9 miles on the baby. I now have about 125 (showing off last night). I have used about a quarter tank of gas (let's say 4 gallons) and the mileage meter says 25mpg. Sounds great thus far.

Disconcerting things:
Engine cutting out during stops and low speeds
Breaks feeling hard due to the energy transfer to charge the battery
Just plain having a car that totally works
Finally picking out a car that I like and want to keep for years to come

It is a rich experience to work with the dealership we use (Maxwell Ford). The prices may be a tad higher than I really want to pay, but when the customer service kicks in, I am appreciative and the money seems well spent.

That's all for now, look for me tooling around town and smiling a great deal!!!

I have a 2006 Sonic Blue Metalic 2WD on order to come in about October or November. It will be so great to have it and a major change from my 99 Olds Alero which has numerous electrical problems. My VIN number gets assigned to me in Mid-July so I can go up to Dearborne if I want to to see it on the line. Not sure if I will have the time for that.

Hello y'all! Thought I'd introduce myself here; my husband and I just bought an Escape Hybrid about 2 weeks ago, sonic blue. Unfortunately the only one we could find was, what appears to be, the basic package, 2WD etc. But it was the only one we could find in stock (we went to 3 different dealerships). I must say I am loving my truck!

Just wanted to ask everyone here how high their gas mileage has gone. Mine has gotten up to 30.3 but we did start out with a 460 mile road trip the day after we got it. I know someone else who has one but she only gets in the high 20's for her gas mileage. Has anyone been able to get their's higher than that?

Another new owner

I also just last month got my FEH. Red Fire Metalic 4WD, with leather, the apearence package, and cargo cover.

I'm just hitting 1000 miles on it.

I've been looking recently for on-line community info since the latest WIRED Mag mentioned the prius on-line commuinities. So far I'v found The Green Hybrid fourm, which appears to have some good info.
Any others people want to recomend?

Hello Hybrids

I'm grok and I just got my 05 Ford Escape Hybrid - I didn't see a community for owners in LJ, so I started one. I'm the moderator.

My hybrid is titanium green with the silver 'appearance' package - it has leather, nav, the CD changer, and the cargo cover - it makes me very happy.

Tell us about your hybrids!
