The joys of ownership
It came early, but suspected it would happen like that. My lovely blue Ford Escape Hybrid SUV. Drives like a dream, not as powerful as Oswald was, but that's an apple/orange comparison. End of day I'm happy.
Things I gave up:
50 Horsepower (lighter car though, but not a direct differential)
Automatic headlights (don't care about them, would rather have more control)
Sunroof (was tired of it anyway)
Cassette tape player (time to give that one up anyway)
1 gallon of gas capacity (15 vs 16)
Powerful old style AC (newer AC's are done different because of the CFC issue, but I'm willing)
Things I gained:
About 10 to 12 MPG (so far)
Working electric windows
Storage capacity (about 20 cubic feet in general guesses)
110 outlet (no need to get a 12vt converter)
Road view (SUV is higher)
Better color (really more me)
Road clearance (much better, made that way)
Working cruise control (those of you have been in my car know the coin op issue I had)
So with a full tank of gas I left the lot with 9 miles on the baby. I now have about 125 (showing off last night). I have used about a quarter tank of gas (let's say 4 gallons) and the mileage meter says 25mpg. Sounds great thus far.
Engine cutting out during stops and low speeds
Breaks feeling hard due to the energy transfer to charge the battery
Just plain having a car that totally works
Finally picking out a car that I like and want to keep for years to come
It is a rich experience to work with the dealership we use (Maxwell Ford). The prices may be a tad higher than I really want to pay, but when the customer service kicks in, I am appreciative and the money seems well spent.
That's all for now, look for me tooling around town and smiling a great deal!!!
